Belgrade Agreement 2002

The senior basketball team has dominated European and world basketball with three EuroBasket titles (1995, 1997 and 2001), two fiba world championship titles (1998 and 2002) and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics (1996). The Constitutional Charter will be submitted to the Assemblies for consideration by the end of June 2002 at the latest. The international community reacted quickly by submitting a peace proposal to Yugoslavia in 1999. The agreement was seen by NATO as an essential ultimatum[55][56] to Yugoslavia and rejected by the Yugoslav government. In March 1999, NATO launched airstrikes against Yugoslav military targets and infrastructure, including roads, railways, administrative buildings and the headquarters of Radio Television Serbia. [57] The NATO bombing campaign was not approved by the UN Security Council, fearing a Veto by Russia that would cause controversy over its legality. [58] [59] The UN Security Council adopted UN Security Council Resolution 1160, which extended arms and oil sanctions against the FRY, criping out its economy. The effects of continued airstrikes and sanctions cost the Yugoslav economy hundreds of billions of dollars[60] and eventually forced the government of Slobodan Milosevic to comply with an agreement presented by an international delegation. UN Security Council Resolution 1244 led to broad autonomy for Kosovo and the creation of a UN mission in Kosovo, as well as the total withdrawal of Yugoslav national army units. [61] [62] As such, Kosovo remained an autonomous province of Serbia, but politically and economically independent. The damage to R-Yugoslavia was immense, with the government estimating that the damage to infrastructure amounted to $100 billion,[60] and 1200 confirmed Serbian and Albanian civilians or soldiers were killed. Economists estimate the direct damage caused by the bombings at at least $29 billion[63] The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia has been suspended by a number of international institutions.

[21] This is explained by the continuation of the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, which had prevented an agreement on the injunction on federal assets and liabilities, especially the public debt. . . .
