The volunteer agreement allows the forest service to accept a “direct service” offered voluntarily. In essence, the volunteer agreement is a contract between the volunteer and the forest service. The agreement ensures that volunteers are covered by the Federal Workers` Compensation Act of 1974. It also compensates volunteers for incidental costs.
