Feeeeeed Meee!

I was standing at my back door with my camera for some reason one morning during the recent rains.  This fine, slightly wet feathered lady, landed on the fence as if to say, “hey fill the birdfeeder, I got hungry kids to feed”!  At least that was the energy I picked up from her.  She has a nest in my backyard. 

So yea, being a softy for critters, I braved the rain and filled it.  As soon as I got back out of the rain, there she was at the birdfeeder, letting out a couple chirps as if to say thanks.  

Just thought I’d share.  🙂

Newest Senior Package

We are excited to bring you a new package, something no one else in the area is offering.  We are so happy to be able to bring this type of Senior Photography to Eastern Iowa.  Special thanks to SAVVY EXCURSIONS LTD. Limousine Service and Dina Alsaid for working with us on this project.

The limousine will pick you up at your house, bring you to the studio for your makeup which will be done by a professional makeup artist.  We will then get in the limo to take you to three locations of your choice for pictures.  The makeup artist will come along for any “touch ups” that may be needed.  I will also have an assistant to aid in making the lighting for each image extraordinary.  We will also provide snacks and beverages of your choice to munch on along the way.  Parents and friends are also more than welcome to join us in the limo.

This new package includes the session fee, limo, makeup artist, photo assistant/ assistants,  in-house proofing session,  online gallery, $350 in studio credit you can use for any product we sell, and 120 wallets.   As with any of our packages, include friends or pets for free, no limits on clothing changes, no extra charge for black and whites or special effects.

Vinney – “The Golden Doodle”

Vinney has got the coolest personality!  He just adopted two humans, Lisa and Curtis, and seems really happy and content in his new home.  His paws are huge and he has a little of that puppy “clumsiness” but he will outgrow that.  Speaking of growing, he’s gonna be a big guy!   He also has a big sis named China.

Image selected as “Assignment Image of the Week”

For those that may not already know me, I’m also into creating fine art images.  I’ve had 5 images selected to show in 3 gallery showings in the past two years, three images at Chait Galleries in Iowa City, and two images at two different shows at Watson Gallery in Texas. 

The image below was one of two images selected as Assignment Image of the Week on www.photoworkshop.com and will be published in Double Exposure Magazine for the next week.  http://www.doubleexposure.com/WA.shtml  The assignment topic was: “glass reflections”.

For those out there that are into photography, Photoworkshop is an online community of photographers of all skill levels.  Each week they have an assignment that must be completed within a 1 week time frame.  The assignments are “judged” by Judith Farber, a very accomplished fine art photographer who has studied under both Ansel Adams and Yousuf Karsh.   She is our “Photoworkshop Mentor”.   http://interviewwithanartist.com/?p=166  and http://judithfarber.com/.

If you are a photographer wanting to improve your skills, I highly suggest signing up with Photoworkshop.com.  The weekly assignments are a great way to improve your skills as a photographer.  They force you to see things in new and different ways. 

Speaking from personal experience, Photoworkshop.com has helped improve my skills by leaps and bounds over the last 6 years!  In addition to the weekly assignments, they have a wealth of information, including a critique page where you can post images and receive feedback from some awesome fellow photographers.  This isn’t like some other photo sites where every critique is “awesome shot” but real honest feedback on what you did both right and what can be improved. 

In addition there is  the photoworkshop book series, the books are full of tips on 10 different types of photography, you can practice what you learn, then post your results on the different book forums and receive critiques and feedback on how you did.  I’ve just touched the surface of everything that is available on Photoworkshop.com, check it out, you will see what I mean! 

Overall, it’s just a fun and very effective way to improve your skills as a photographer.

Olivia’s Senior Portraits

Olivia has done some modeling in the past and was just a delight to work with!  Easy going, great taste, great ideas, and the most amazing eyes!  She was wanting something a little different and I think we accomplished that.   It was basically impossible to get a “bad” shot of her!

Sam’s Senior Portraits

While the session started out a little slow, think she was a little nervous at first, but Sam was a trooper and relaxed a bit.  Then the fun began.  We did a few shots in  the studio, went out to Beaver Park, and then out to Oak Hill Cemetary.   I think we got some pretty good shots!  grin

Vinney, China, and their Pet Humans, Lisa and Curtis

Nathaniel’s Senior Portraits

Megan and Chris

Elissabeth and Nick’s Wedding

WOW, talk about locations for a wedding! Elissabeth and Nick were married at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on June 26th. It was a little on the warm and sticky side but they couldn’t have picked a more beautiful location for their wedding, just awesome gardens and ponds!

The ceremony was a combination of Korean and American traditions, held in the gazebo at the edge of the rose gardens.

The reception was great also, it was at the Grand Harbour Hotel in Dubuque, right on the Mississippi River. Beautiful place in it’s own right!

Congratulations to Elissabeth and Nick on their wedding, thank you for choosing Visions Photography to participate in your special day!

A special thanks also to Jaime Moquin for her help as 2nd! Love your work girl, you have a gift for capturing the moments! 🙂
