Recent Randomness

In addition to working with clients and producing images that go beyond ordinary images for them, I really enjoy getting out and doing personal work. I find it is great practice for improving how I “see” things and it really helps me to constantly improve my photography skills! LoL in other words I have my camera with me just about anywhere I go! 🙂

These first two images are from the big snowstorm we had the first of Feb, just two months ago. I’m sooo happy the “white stuff” is gone for a while! 🙂 I like these two images because they also show my mural that Stubby Webb did for me last November. 🙂 Thank you Miss Stubby!

I love the challenge of Street Shooting also. A couple of weeks ago Claire McGranahan, Greg Frieden, and myself went exploring in downtown Cedar Rapids. The thing I like about street shooting is there is always a picture waiting around just about any corner, a blank canvas so to speak! It’s great practice on the art of “seeing” These next 4 are just some playing around with window reflections.

The image below is a shot of Claire shooting straight up the building. 🙂 Sorry Claire, I couldn’t resist! 🙂

I loved this wall! A couple of stencils of a flag and Statue of Liberty.

A random boot left in a parking lot, you just know there is a story behind this, but not sure I want to know what it really is! LoL 🙂

This was taken inside a parking garage, I liked the way the sunshine was pouring in.

Amelia and Joseph

Sunshine and her Pet Human! :)

Sunshine brought her pet human Katie to our studio for some portraits a few weeks back! Don’t let 1st impressions fool you! 🙂 I know, at first glance Sunshine may look a bit “intimidating” but she is really a sweetheart! Katie is too! 🙂

They were both great to work with and fun to photograph something a little different then the “norm.” 🙂

Artistic Adventures 4

Once again, it’s been a while since I posted some personal work, too long! LoL

The weather has been getting warmer and it reminded me of trips out to the blind and that I hadn’t posted any of these images yet.

Late last fall, I went out to Lake MacBride Raptor Center with Greg Frieden and Stubby Webb, two really good friends of mine. What a great place!

You can not only get up close and personal with the raptors that are in their care, but they also have a blind. The blind is SUPER for observing nature and birds and wildlife of all types. We were able to observe deer, cardinals, raccoons, finches, and woodpeckers all while sitting in the blind.

Great way to get away from everyday life and just enjoy being alive! You can really learn a lot about life just watching nature.

Orchestra Iowa – Verdi Requiem

On March 19, 2011 I once again had the honor of photographing one of Orchestra Iowa’s performances! Words can’t really describe how much I enjoy these events and working with the great people and musicians that make up Orchestra Iowa!

I arrive and talk specifics with Christy Frost and Robert Massey on what they are looking for. We scope out my “spots” which varies with the different venues. This venue was the Concert Hall at College Community which has some of the best acoustics in this area.

The musicians start their warmup which gives a subtle hint of the great performance about to unfold. Then silence for a few minutes until maestro Timothy Hankewich comes on stage and takes charge. The music starts….

It’s hard for me to describe what happens next, but I’m gonna try! 🙂 Once the music starts the best way I can describe it is I just zone out. I see the faces on the musicians, hear the music, the music inspires me, and that just multiplies on itself throughout the performance.

A special Thank You to Orchestra Iowa for placing your trust in me and allowing me to photograph their events!

Pelicans in Iowa?

Pelicans in Iowa? That was the same question Greg Frieden and myself were asking when we spotted them one day last October while we were out at Lake MacBride.

Tuns out they nest in western Canada and in larger lake regions in the western US and that they regularly migrate through Iowa in spring and fall.
